Buying a pellet stove: what should you look for?

A pellet stove combines the cozy feel of a wood fire with the convenience of an automatic heater. Read below to learn how it works and what to consider.

How does a pellet stove work?

You fill the hopper with wood pellets. An auger automatically feeds the pellets into the burner, which is ignited electrically. You use the thermostat and weekly schedule to control the temperature; the heater automatically regulates how many pellets it burns.

What output is right for your space?

A pellet stove is powerful enough to heat a living room or open-plan living space as the main heating source.

Installation and exhaust

A pellet stove requires a flue and a power outlet for the ignition and auger. Have the heater and flue installed by a certified installer, and check the regulations in your municipality.

Pellets and maintenance

Use dry, good-quality pellets; poor-quality pellets produce more ash and clog the burner faster. Clean the burn pot and ash drawer regularly. With an ash vacuum , it’s quick and dust-free.

Prefer not to use pellets?

A laser heater or flued wall heater a kerosene heater, or an electric heater, can also be a good choice. View all heaters or contact us for advice.
